just finished glazing some pots leftover from my last pottery session. there were some already glazed and fired cups, vases, and shot glasses ready to come home with me. sitting shotgun in DAS AUTO. you may recognize the biggest one as my 'coffee mug turned pencil holder'. it did indeed make it through from beginning to end and now serves its intended purpose in my house.

my last pottery class of this session. turning the wheel on with my big ol' rain boot (it rained), getting ready to trim a bowl. teacher todd is helping the gal to my right. centering the pots is tricky business. i required quite a bit of help this last class period. apparently my lessons have paid off, right?

happy birthday mom :)

pottery class. the beginning of what became a bowl. the wire is used to cut manageable sized chunks of clay off the block. from here the clay gets kneaded by hand to get all the air bubbles out (i'm a little impatient and tend to miss a few here and there) rolled into a ball and then thrown into something beautiful. teacher todd is instrumental in making the product 'beautiful'.

let's get together and feel alright...

pottery class. helen is trimming her vase/kitchen utensil holder on the wheel like a pro. she's the only first-timer in the beginner class, but is still putting the rest of us to shame some days.

there'd be music playin', people laughin' all the time...

pottery, pottery. the class is very...therapeutic(?) for me. good people, relaxing work, creative space. i missed the three previous classes. and oh how my skills waned. i managed to puncture a hole in the bottom of what was supposed to be a coffee mug. turns out i made myself yet another coffee-mug-turned-pencil-holder. seems to be my specialty. i went to a training for work earlier in the day entitled 'discover your strengths'. we went over the difference between a strength and a hobby. simply put - a strength is something someone will pay you to do; a hobby is not. pottery is my hobby.

i had my first pottery class of the year. there were five people, and there were three wheels. so we had to take turns. i admired the items left in the studio from previous sessions. erin had left some from the fall class her, jen, and i took. once i got on the wheel i realized it's quite possible i regressed past where i started a few months ago. it took me twice as long on the wheel as everyone else. and my pieces ended up more lopsided than before. my career is soaring, really.
