new years eve! playing a drinking game with shannon, fred, and todd. getting ready to head on over to steph & carson’s with nick, brendon, jay to meet erin (fisk!!) and stacy (sorry for inviting all my friends to your party, s&c). then heading off to the barrymore to see shoeless perform, and meet up with my emmy!! in town from nyc!! what a way to ring in 2010.

immediate family christmas dinner. a wonderful evening, with good food drink and people. out at ocean aire in minneapolis. having an impossibly long dinner (is this what they do in europe) with ma pa bro and sis. drinks, appetizers, wine, dinner, drinks, dessert, coffee. we retired back to the house and treated my parents to all 600 or so pictures from our trip. what a fantastic night!

christmas day! spent the snowy day at aunt mona and uncle mike’s place in chaska. back home, using the pa’s espresso machine to fire myself up a shot to go in the espresso martini he doesn’t know he’s making me yet. but i am sure it will be delicious. i drink and eat so well at home.

jackie’s in town! sitting right next to me at sushi happy hour. out with schrvyer and shaina. pre-drinking games and ‘houses in motion show’ at the high noon. clearly starting the night out with a volcano (ryan’s favorite) drink at ginza. thankfully they didn’t try (key word being try) to refuse him service this time.

‘santaland diaries’! at the bartell theater. going to watch the david Sedaris play about a disgruntled mall elf. out with liz, harvey, steph, carson, schryver, kara. little did we know how ‘lucky’ we would be front row with the surly cast members! luckily we were fresh off of happy hour with some additional folks, including perket (!!!!) in town with his landlady from london.

having some hot chocolate & peppermint schnapps in my coffee mug (i made it myself!) around the house. i got hooked on the drink with the new snow and the snow day. mm-mmm. getting ready to head to steph & carson’s for a fancy wine and cheese night, and the alchemy, with ryan.

snow day, snow day! happy snow day!! madison, wi received a gift of 19 inches of snow tuesday night/wednesday morning. the city (and state) shut down. my office and coffee shop were closed. so, no work for this gal, or ryan, or fred, or shannon. so what did we do? we shoveled. and drank. nothing quite like hot apple bourbon cider and peppermint schnapps hot chocolate on a snow day. headed on over to the willy/atwood area to kara’s and play some circle of death with kara stacy and cody later in the eve. good day. thanks mother nature! snow days should be mandatory.

it’s gonna snow in madison. hard. work was already postponed for the next day until 10am. so what did we do at mckinley? we drank. ryan and i headed out to the grocery store before the snowfall started falling to pick up some warm drinks. playing euchre with ryan fred shannon in the living room. getting geared up for our hot apple bourbon cider fueled hike through quarry park later in the evening. by the way, if you were thinking of buying the rights to market and sell bourbon apple cider sno-cones, too bad. we already called dibs.

the family is in town! mom dad and meg (sans ryan) in from minneapolis for the thanksgiving weekend! we spent the early evening in the hotel sipping on chocolate wine before going to barriques for a wine tasting. at dinner at la brioche on the westish side of town. it came highly recommended by fred. we were happy customers. taking a peak at the beer list (oh too sleepy for more wine) as mom’s listening to meg tell a story of some sort.

getting ready to go over to kara pennoyer’s. kara pennoyer! the newest madison friend. moved up from chicago and threw a moving party, which was actually just a clever name for a ‘drinking boxed wine out of a can’ party. grabbed some beers, just in case. the crew of kara, henzie, stacy, liz, ryan, fred, nick, jake, wilkie, shaina, katy had been moving & drinking since 3. so clearly i had little confidence there would be drinks left.

happy halloween. hanging around the house, playing trivial pursuit, drinking some hot bourbon cider, ryan playing fred’s bass. ryan nick and i cooked up some homemade pizzas using the wealth of pasta sauce i had from thursday. and hung around the house before getting all dressed up and heading to the big 10 to meet up with the wilkie bros.

brenda and tom’s wedding rehearsal! groomsman dinner on the patio with the very best gals from high school. ash and her man-friend (not her man-mate) at the dinner table. they have been dating for a while, which is apparent by ryan’s clear dismissal of whatever ash is saying while he’s eating his champps dinner. these are good people.

playing some cards. last day in europe. hanging out with ryan and a couple of G&Ts in the rome hostel bar. we’ve played a lot of cards this trip. but really the only game we know is golf. so we’re playing golf. i probably kept the four of diamonds, since judging from the discard pile, it looks to be pretty early in the game. and a four is good early in the game. the table was real sticky, not good for cards. ryan had to play his cards on top of his little journal.

at the hostel bar in rome. drinking some G&Ts with ryan, writing in our journals. we’ve been trying and trying to find a mixed drink that costs less than an arm and a leg (read: less than 7-9 euro) and we succeeded in the hostel bar. four euro for a strong ass drink. hallelujah.

having some drinks by a canal in amsterdam. off a bit from the main red light district area, hanging out by the bar out walking tour tour guide took us for ‘traditional dutch food’ the other day. across the canal behind ryan you can see the anne frank huis and museum. it is just over the black railing. odd to think that’s the door the family walk into and out of hiding, isn’t it?

sitting on the window ledge in the hostel in dublin. a little down time after a day of hiking along the coast in howth, ireland. writing postcards and packages to alli, bree, marissa & nina, schryver, and so on and so forth. drinks are expensive in dublin (and i’m a broke backpacker), so enjoying a store-bought cider beer in the room is always encouraged. one thing i’ve noticed here is cider beer is much more common and popular than in the states. i wonder if its delicious abundance will be seen across europe.

just another friday night at the echo with deniz. having some pitchers, some fish fry, and scoring some birthday cake from the bartender. nick joined after work to help with the spotted cow. deniz and i already left heidi and kathy – two of our other co-workers – after a drink at the club tavern in middleton. they didn’t have any happy hour left in them, but deniz and i were in for the long haul; it’s friday!

for the first time ever ever ever, i forgot! how did i forget to take a picture?? had i remembered, you would have seen my co-worker from uwmf, deniz, tasting a lot of dry and a little bit of sweet white wines at the barriques on monroe street. but i forgot! so here is a picture of me driving home around 9pm. deniz and i were so wrapped in conversation about life, living, loving, working that i forgot!

shooting some pool with some great people. mike – in from chicago, jen and jacob – in from corvalis, ryan – my roommate, jay and kyle – mike’s friends and my neighbor apparently. the seven of us had some beers, played some games, grabbed some dinner, and headed out on the town for a night. a night that included all of the following & more: three dancing pink bunnies, lemon drops, andy dobbins and heather vogts, red aura, somersault competitions, photo hunt, skull bongs, and campfires until sunrise. another perfect perfect night.
