at the claddagh – with jen! jen middleton back in madison (middleton)! having a drink and appetizers with my dear friend. exchanging christmas gifts (good thing i wrapped hers) and looking at my euro trip pictures. what a good friend to look at picture after picture of my month of fun. we’re only on london right now, so we have a waaaays to go, ms. middleton! lucky for him, ryan monte left before getting stuck in my euro-picture trap.

dinner at zach’s. he made lasagna (two! meat and vegetarian!), salad, and served crackers & cheese and fresh from new zealand pinot noir. delicious and delicious. got to hang out at his new place right downtown – which i am sure is even more awesome when not dealing with concerts on the square parking – and continue catching-up from his extended leave of absence from the states. and, i scored the entire pan of veggie lasagna to bring home. he is too good to me.

happy birthday meg :)

drinking wine with jen. that's all we do together. barriques on monroe street had a wine and chocolate tasting. the wines were zins, but we were concerned about the chocolate, mainly. and there was no disappointment. the two owners of the store were there and able to give a bit of insight as to what the tasting notes really meant. such as a '30 second finish'. unfortunately, seeing how we enjoyed a happy hour beer prior to barriques, we were only able to make it half-way through the wines before calling it quits.

by the garden of the willow tree...

i invited myself over to jen's house. we met for a sushi lunch and i offered a bottle a wine if she'd let me hang out with her in the evening. i went snowshoeing at governor nelson park on the north side after work. jen lives just a hop and skip away. she fed me little ceasars crazy bread and home-made heart-shaped sugar cookies with pink frosting, and i fed her syrah (a vegetarian's dream dinner - other than pasta and cheese, of course). we spent a few hours talking and enjoying the tunes of tiny tim.

thursday 01.01.09

i had a girl's night at jen's. it was just the two of us. shannon and erin were sick. but the two of us cooked like they were there. hummus, veggie pizza, pesto, brownies, and vino. jen's boyfriend, jason, started us a fire before he left. we weren't skilled enough to keep it going, but were still able to enjoy what was left. we listened to the allison krause and robert plante cd 2.5 times through as we chatted about christmas, new years, loves lost, awkward encounters, and small victories.
