all of my < 3 oz. liquids in a plastic bag. getting ready for ryan and my quiet night on the town… getting ready for ryan and my rowdy night on the town with three london bartenders. sometimes nights escalade. especially when the pub closes at 11:00pm and the folks working behind the bar are looking to grab a drink after work. big night out on the town with our new friends.

cooking – or prepping veggies to cook – at becky’s place in london. another night of veggies. this time with rice and rice noodles. on our way back from a day out and about (read: sleeping until noon) we swung by the grocery store to pick up food to cook. becky’s flatmates paulius and urte were around cooking, too, when we got home and hung around the for evening conversation and music.

packing up dinner for storage at becky’s. ryan becky and i made a veggie fish and pasta dinner from the food becky had at her house. we enjoyed our dinner outside on the beautiful flawless london day. becky’s flatmate paulius joined us for conversation for the eve. a somewhat sleepy, but great first evening in london.

london london! on the flight to london! the bro and i started our month-long journey through europe. leaving minneapolis tuesday afternoon and arriving early wednesday morning. our adventure begins in flight with cribbage and free wine.

dinner out on the deck with the fam. the bro and the sis dishing up and digging in. grilled scallops and corn on the cob. a 'perfect summer dinner' as my brother said. indeed! and a perfect summer evening of conversation. always circling back to make fun of my dad in some way. he is such a sport.

driving out in the country. just finished up a wine tasting out at a newerish vineyard in delano. the folks tried it out a few weeks back, and wanted ryan and i to experience it. so the five hanson family members piled in the car and had some vino. apparently the midwest is not the place to grow grapes for red wine. but the white wine was mighty tasty. went from wine at the vineyard to wine at biaggi's in maple grove. too much wine! too much wine!

hanging out at my parents’ house with some of my ma's side of the fam. all the brothers, sister, and their fams came for a summer cook-out and conversation. the only absent ones were ryan and cousin jeff. both in duluth being awful and boring. the anderson side is always a bit rowdy. having good chats here about how weird i am for being a vegetarian. i suppose that happens when one uncle is a butcher, and another uncle raises cattle. what threw me was my fourteen year old cousin - 'so, you don't eat meat, but you eat fish. that's weird.' thanks cassidy.

packing up. leaving in the a.m. for the cities for a few days, then off to europe for a month. brainstorming all the stuff i may need in the four weeks i'll be in europe, and the one week i'll be in the cities. making sure to grab the compacted travel raincoat. i hear london and ireland can be a wee bit wet. didn't spend too much time packing since nick was downstairs itching to play buzz trivia and throw back some pbrs before (and after) ryan and fred got back from the bar.

eh. nice shot. if you look real nice and close, you can see i'm hanging out on the floor with liza, while ryan's playing on his phone on the couch. fred moved in, and you can see all his boxes lining the wall. nick's staying in his room a few more days before he can move into his place downtown. so fred's just floating around sans bedroom for the time being.

cooking myself dinner. reina passed along a cashew pilaf recipe she made for her ma the other day. so i took the free evening to make the dish along with roasted broccoli and cauliflower. and i was not disappointed! it took over an hour to make (and i am less than a patient person), but on the up-side, with all that down time i had next to zero dishes left to wash by the time dinner was ready. waiting here to include the chopped parsley and cashews into what was slowly becoming the pilaf.

barriques work with genni, back from college for the summer. my first (and only) summer shift with genni! with our combination of me not working, and her trading away 75% of her shifts, we hadn’t worked together since christmas (ahem, holiday) vacation. the other co-workers were in earlier in the afternoon for a staff wine tasting, courtesy of tracy. so genni & i had the rare tuesday pleasure of washing the wine glasses. though, surprisingly, it was a big night for wine at barriques.

driving with reina. well, reina driving me i suppose. we cooked ourselves a vegetarian dinner from our combined cupboards and refrigerators: fresh zucchini and hummus, sweet corn, steamed kale with almonds and feta, and scallions with salt. not too shabby for not going to the grocery store. we drove for dessert, but it was (as always) worth the effort. we enjoyed our ice cream as we window shopped through greenway for a dress for reina.

ice cream with ryan. delicious delicious cold stone ice cream creations with ryan. after spending the rainy humid afternoon in the house with a broken computer and ‘one flew over the cuckoo’s nest’, i was feeling a bit (a lot) stir crazy and sweaty. luckily ryan was on the same page as we collided in the living room in a daze of boredom. cold stone was the ideal remedy. and we had gift cards.

heading to sushi with colin. spent most of the afternoon/early evening napping away my over-celebration (mourning) of jen’s move to st. paul, so 5:00 sushi happy hour was missed. but, i got to try out a new-to-me place on the east side called…something. it was by the mall. and it was delicious. and they were playing ‘find nemo’ on the tv. yes, i think a little irony on a saturday evening sounds nice.
